"Feel the drive"

15.08.-31.08.2011

What can you expect:
  • Language Course:
We will arrange two courses about German language for beginners.

  • Leisure program:
We're planning trips to Heidelberg, Strasbourg with a visit to the European Parliament and Baden-Baden. We're also trying to organise an official reception at the town hall, BBQ and of course pub crawls and parties. Try to get a travel connection to your home town after the official ending of the SU (day of departure is Wednesday, 31th). Otherwise you would miss great parties before :-).

  • Lodging, food and fee:
You will be lodged in a scout house. You need to bring sleeping bags with you.

  • We will provide you breakfast and at least one more meal per day. Normally, we will take this meal in the mensa of our University.

  • The fee will be 160€ + 20€ optional Fee. The optional Fee is for the trip to Strasbourg. Just to avoid No-Shows, we'd like you either to pay 80 Euro in advance and 80 Euro on arrival and to send us a copy of your ticket in advance. If you want to pay the rest of your fee here, please pay in cash. We can't accept any cheques.
Included in the fee are lodging, the language course, food and we hope to provide most of leisure program for free.

  • We are going to offer you as well a 15 day ticket for the local transport system. But don't forget to bring also some money for your private expenses with you. For example: a beer in a pub (0.5 l) costs about 3 Euro, meals in restaurants start at about 4 Euro.

  • Some things you should not forget:
Rain coat and bathing clothes. It's usually very hot here in August (about 30 degrees) but sudden rain showers and thunderstorms are always possible. Hopefully the weather will be as good and as warm as last year.

  • Shoes for city walks and cycling tour:
Since we want to show you Karlsruhe and some other places don't forget shoes, which you can walk in for some time. Remember: It is difficult to go by bike or play volleyball with high heels :-).

  • Drink and Food for the European Night:
At the European Night everybody cooks a special meal from his own region. So don't forget to take with you a traditional recipe and some ingredients, that may be expensive or difficult to find in Germany. And of course a national drink is fine as well! If you are not sure whether you can find something here just ask us.

  • How to get here:

If you want to come by train, there's no problem. www.bahn.de is the homepage of the German Railway System.

If you want to come by bus, Eurolines has as well a station here. You will arrive at Karlsruhe train station.

If you want to come by car, there is a motorway A5 next to Karlsruhe.

If you want to come by plain, you can fly to Frankfurt Hahn (it's not in the vincinity of Frankfurt) (HHN), to Stuttgart (STR) or to Baden-Airpark (FKB). From there you can easily come to Karlsruhe by train.
